Wednesday evening. Happy Hour. Taking advantage by ordering the spring roll platter deal all for myself. I’m so hungry all the time. Thank god all the food is so delicious and so cheap.
I wrote many more pages today. This second notebook is going fast. I might actually have to leave my haunted tower tomorrow and set off in search of new stationary. Yeah, I should probably get out and explore Bangkok a little now that I’ve been here for a whole week. I’ve become too comfortable in my new luxury high-rise loft apartment.
And honestly? It’s worth it. I get to come up to this rooftop anytime I want and get one of the best 360 views the city has to offer. I can see it all from up here in my little crow’s nest. Why do I ever need to leave?
What did I write today? More planning, more throwaway. Useful for character development, will not fit into the overall narrative. Well, yes, but no. Not these specific pages, not in this specific form.
I used to get so hung up on this process when I was writing Andrew. Every little dumb random story had to have some kind of meaning. No. More of it is just throwaway garbage for character building purposes. He was just too hard to figure out, that one. I had to cut my losses after a certain point. It was very hard to let go. I mean, look at me right now, I still haven’t fully let go. I just know whatever I’m writing right now is different from him, but I wouldn’t know how to write it if I hadn’t written him. So that is my frame of reference right now. I can only look at my binders full of failures and learn from my mistakes.
Speaking of mistakes, this playlist the lounge has on is a mistake. Why are we playing Pitbull dance club party vibes on a cloudy afternoon? We could be making better choices here.
Oh man, the vibe killers are here. And by that I mean, the Passport Bros. Ewww. Now they’re being loud and obnoxious, taking up space, trying to get my attention, saying rude, obnoxious things about the waitress thinking she can’t understand. Annoying.
Like, why are you guys standing right now? Just sit down? One of them is American, one of them is Indian (and also yelling obnoxiously in Hindi, which he obviously thinks I can’t understand), both of them look like gargoyles who swooped in specifically for the purpose of bringing down this chill rooftop vibe. Team No One, Team No One.
Alright, now we’ve got a weird hipster couple joining us for Happy Hour. The chick looked up at me from her phone like she had just been caught doing something she wasn’t supposed to, then slinked off to the slide to “take a few pictures of the city.” It’s definitely giving Cheater vibes. I know ‘em when I see ‘em.
Unfortunately, the walked over to the other side of the building and left me alone with the gargoyles. Oh god, they’re looking over here right now. Lord save me. Maybe if I sit perfectly still, they won’t notice me. Just kidding, it’s definitely too late for that. Guess I will have to give up the view for now and relocate back downstairs to my apartment to avoid them.
Wish me luck!
Hey Betsey! I’ve been seeing your stories lately where you mentioned you were looking for a job. I think you have a nag for storytelling, and you might want to consider posting on tiktok and Instagram reels. You already have a lot of interesting stories you could tell. Posting frequently will help you get followers to share your writing/travel journey with. This blog is great and you could get even more from it by going to other platforms that use video format. Good luck!
