BLOG: Hope U Get Rich

Saturday morning. At the coffee stand. I always miss this place the most when I am gone from here. I love my perfect little writing spot. I have yet to find one in HK.

As much as I wanted to run away from life, once again my decision to become a HongKonger came back to bite me in the ass. It was as if a metaphorical Grab driver came into the bar yesterday holding a red envelope just for me. When I opened it said, “We Own You. Time for you to come back! With Love, HKSAR.”

In reality this message came in the form of my friend, who I have been jokingly calling my “Chinese Minder” since he’s all up in my business. I told him I wanted to run off to Vietnam to do yoga on a beach for a month. He told me that I need to grow up and face the reality that I am unemployed on the other side of the planet, that the best career opportunities are in HK, and it would be really stupid to throw away my chance just to bankrupt myself doing nothing.

“I knew it,” he said. “You are too much under the influence of the Thai Expat Community. You can’t stay on vacation forever. You don’t want to. You’re not like them!”

I sat there for awhile with my discomfort and realized he was right. So I re-booked my old apartment in HK for the month of March and now I’m searching for a plane ticket. Apparently the hosts were renovating the place during February, which is why I couldn’t stay there. They were more than happy to put me back up again. It’s not ideal, but the price and the location cannot be beat. Something better will come along when the time is right…

My reward for going back and facing up to the challenge instead of running away is a Chinese New Year Party at the horse racing track. So obnoxiously bougie, I know. I love it. I can’t help myself!

Now we know why I need to get out of the guilded cage once in awhile to run around with all the riff-raff down by the docks. That alleyway scene from House of Guinness sure hits different now, lol! It may not have worked out with my Irish Guy in the long run, but I’ll always remember the night he made me howl like a wild, wild cat at the moon.

If you don’t get it, you don’t get it.

God help me if I ever see that man again. I will not be able to hold it together…

Anyway, enough Lifestyles of the Bang Lads and Degenerates. We must return to Hong Kong and be serious, stylish, and successful. Money in the bank. That’s all that matters right now. Money in the bank. Assuming I acquire said money, I can finally buy my own bar in 20 years and retire comfortably to watch my favourite reality TV show in peace. For now… money. It’s all about the money.

I keep telling myself this is just a strategy game. I’ve got the Wild Card. The rarest tile. The letter worth the most points. Boardwalk and Park Place on the Monopoly board. I just don’t know how to play my hand. At least, I haven’t figured it out yet. I’m just waiting for the right opportunity to come along so I can play it and take all the winnings home.

Gong Hei Fat Choi, indeed.

I hope I get rich…

BLOG: Red Envelope Special

Tuesday. Lunar New Year. Mardi Gras! Happy holidays!

I am wearing a special outfit I got from India today. It is red and white gold. Very beautiful. Perfect for the New Year.

I did not think the coffee shop would be open today, but it is. I admit I was actually on my way to the American Bar for some good old fashioned Bangkok degenerate daydrinking, but I decided to stop here for my daily iced mocha and write first. We must catch up on yesterday’s events before we go out and collect more stories.

Yesterday was… interesting. I decided to go to the pot shop and day drink, which was a mistake because my friend called me around 7pm and asked me to meet him at the American Bar. I know better than to mix daytime and nighttime drinking in Thailand, but I ignored my better instincts and did it anyway. It ended with me getting sick and running home and forgetting to pay my tab, which is why I was on my way to said bar to fix the situation.

Anyway, before all of that happened, I went to meet my friend, who is Irish. I have mentioned him on here before. I call him The Moose because he is obsessed with his Canadian Girl who left him long ago. He always likes to talk about how much land he has back home in Ireland. I learned recently that this means he is flirting with me. This is how Irish men flirt, apparently. They constantly talk about how much land they have.

He is also friends with the Hot Beef Stew. I tried to ignore this fact so I could be at peace and just let the whole situation go, but he brought it up! I had to sit there and sip my drink to hide my excitement when he mentioned his name.

The Moose said, “Well, you know we were here a couple weeks back. He was asking on about you.”

Really? He was asking on about me? I must sit perfectly still and pretend I have not secretly been dying to hear this exact sentence for the last three months. Keep it together, Betsey. Just play it cool.

“Yeah, he wanted to know what kind of person I thought you were. I said I thought you were really cool. You’re just the kind of person people have to get to know first.”

“Oh, thank you. I thought you were going to say that I was crazy.”

“You’re not crazy, you’re just Irish. Very Irish. You don’t even know how Irish you are. I feel sorry for you because you don’t know anything about it at all. You don’t know your own people. You’ve never been to your homeland. You don’t know who you are at all. That’s very sad to me.”

“Right, yeah, I know all that, but what did he say about me?”

“He agreed with me.”

“Yes, well, he would, wouldn’t he? He got to know me quite well that evening. Got to hear the whole story and see the whole spectrum of emotion that comes with it. And then some. Ha ha.”

“We didn’t like what you were saying about us Irish guys though.”

“Oh, don’t be too upset about that. It’s not just Irish guys. Trust me. I’ve dated men from all over the world and all of them are the same. I think it’s just a problem with men in general.”

“I believe you.”

“Anyway, I’m not dating right now. I am looking for purpose, meaning, and fulfillment outside of a relationship. I am focusing on myself instead.”

And not-so-secretly obsessing over your friend, of course. Obviously.

“Are you going to go back to Hong Kong?”

“Well, I have to because I put my luggage into storage there, but I don’t think I will stay. It’s a money issue. I have no job or income or apartment. I have no purpose there. I have no purpose anywhere. I think I will just go bum around the beach for a month and then go take another Yoga Teacher Training course in India.”

“That makes sense. You hated Hong Kong. You wrote to me every day.”

“I didn’t hate it, I was just very lonely there. I wrote to a lot of people every day. I keep regular correspondence with quite a few of my friends. It’s not limited just to you. Don’t feel like you’re special in any way.”

“I don’t. We all know how much you like your conquests.”

“I don’t go out conquesting anymore. Your friend took all the fun out of it for me.”

Because he lied about being married, then shamed me for acting like a ‘slut,’ as if I was the one who was doing something wrong by being there.

“I’m sorry to hear that.”

“No you’re not.”

“You’re right. I’m not.”

The conversation turned away from this subject and returned to all things Irish. The Hot Beef Stew did not come up again, even though I had a million questions and was dying to ask them all. I told myself I would not feed my own obsessive compulsion and refrained from saying anything at all. I just let my friend talk about his huge tracts of land back in Ireland and speculate how many millions they might be worth. Meanwhile, I stared off into space at the wall behind him, continuing to stew over the Stew.

At some point he had to leave. That was when I started feeling really sick and had to run home. Now I have to go in today and make sure my tab is paid. Hate it when that happens.

Still have no idea what I am doing with my life beyond that. It’s okay! I’ll figure it out! Somehow?

The only thing I’ve figured out is that I want a grilled cheese sandwich. Good thing I have to go pay my tab…

That is all for today. We shall see what else develops as the week continues on…

BLOG: Kill Your Darlings

Monday again. Here we are, still in Bangkok. I decided to max out my 30 days after all. Why not?

I admit it: It’s the magical cloud bed that really does it for me. I need to find out what kind of mattresses they use.

Had to take some time to prioritize today. I woke up very early so I did some yoga, meditation, and journaling. I had some very difficult decisions to make. The only way to do it was to sit down and do it.

Unfortunately, I have made the decision to kill my darling of the year, which is Hong Kong. I love it so much, but it’s expensive AF and it’s draining me. Bangkok, as much as I love it, is also a drain and realistically not a healthy long-term option for me.

So then I had to look at time, money, and future goals. Figure out what boxes I’ve checked on my bucket list of life and which ones I haven’t. Figure out what goal is most important to me right now and pursue that. Be serious. Be real. Stop running around like a wild farang with all the riff raff and get my shit together.

For me, it’s really coming down to one factor: Achievement. I feel like I am underachieving and underperforming in life. I just want to step up my game. Take it to the next level. Actually do something meaningful and useful with my time other than writing about random dive bars to pass the time.

This is why I chose Hong Kong. I wanted it to take me to the next level. Unfortunately, the next level is prohibitively expensive and requires a Masters Degree to be even remotely competitive on the job market. So, it is not working, and I know it’s not working, but it’s hard to cut the loss and walk away since it was such a massive investment.

So let’s say I do walk away. What next? Well, there’s still about a million places I want to travel to. I definitely want to go back to school and get my Masters Degree. Seriously considering going back to India for the 300hr Yoga Teacher Training course just so I can have the Achievement of the RYT-500 Certification under my belt. Maybe just go beach bum it up in Vietnam for a bit. Then go back to the US (where I am literally homeless), hit refresh somehow (crashing on my brother’s couch), and then apply for graduate school abroad?

Hmm… where should I go to school? I wanted to go to France forever, but now I am seriously considering Ireland instead. I’ve already studied in France. Why not go research my family heritage and bang lots of hot rugby players enjoy the various cultural offerings of the Emerald Isle?

I’ve seen something I like and now I’m obsessed with it. So obsessed I spent a whole hour yesterday researching the cultural significance of the harp in Ireland. So enlightening!

Lots of options to consider. Ditch the men, ditch the money pit, ditch the person I used to be and reach for the person I want to become!

All that inspirational bullshit.

For now, I remain in Bangkok. Doing what I don’t know. Sitting on the rooftop, staring out into the abyss, trying to figure out who I am and what I’m doing with my life…

Clearly I have too much free time on my hands…

BLOG: Chillin’

Friday.

Will I ever return to Hong Kong? I don’t know. It’s funny how I never expected to end up in Bangkok, yet it feels more like home. I had this whole plan a year ago. Nothing went according to that plan. Yet somehow, I have ended up here and everything is okay again.

Maybe.

I did not go out last night. Mostly because I was daydrinking at the pot shop instead. I was talking to the bartender from Myanmar about her life. If you ever need a reality check, try to talking to someone from that country. Life could always be so much worse.

What am I doing with my life? I have absolutely no idea. All I can tell you is that it is particularly smoggy here today. Not a fan!

I feel like I should be doing something more productive with my time aside from meditating, but I’m not. Spending lots of time on the yoga mat, staring into space, connecting to the universal oneness.

Nothing interesting to report on today. Just going to do some more yoga now…

BLOG: IDGAF

Wednesday. Still in Bangkok. It’s very easy to stay in my little bubble here. It’s very comfortable. I never want to leave. I’m obsessed with my safe space.

I feel so calm and relaxed all the time. It’s such a relief to be so far away from the nightmare life I was once living. I’ve never felt this content in my entire life. I didn’t even know it was possible for me to feel so consistently normal.

Still recovering from Monday. Have not been out of the apartment at all. Instead I’ve been doing yoga and journaling. Thinking of going back to India for another YTTC. Unfortunately, I have to wait until my current tourism visa expires in a month before I can go back for a 30-day yoga course again. No escaping from reality today.

Instead I sat down with my notebook and made a new list of personal goals and priorities. This year has been ridiculous. Nothing turned out how I expected. I’ve learned a lot and made many mistakes along the way. Now I’m here in Month 9 wondering… what do I do next now that my previous plans have all totally been derailed?

Just keep sending job applications. So far no luck. Re-did my resume again. Just keep at it, I guess. What other choice do I have?

Either way, it’s always good to sit down and take stock of everything I’ve accomplished in the last few years. Priorities have definitely shifted and changed. I’ve checked quite a few items off of my bucket list. Others remain untouched or frustratingly out-of-reach. Either way, life moves forward.

Off to do some more yoga now. Rest. Relax. Regulate my nervous system. Meditate until I have some clarity on my life. What course of action to take next, I wonder?

I wonder, I wonder…

BLOG: Real Life Choices

Sunday morning at the coffee stand. I was not feeling well this weekend so I did not come here yesterday. I have not been feeling quite right ever since I ate the squid… never again.

Because of this, I haven’t really done anything since I made my discovery. I think Younger Betsey would have taken some kind of regrettable action out of anger, but mid-30’s Betsey who studied yoga in India and Bali, traveled to over a dozen countries, and now lives in SEA is not compelled to do much of anything besides order delivery on Grab, watch Bridgerton, and sleep.

I learned from meditating that it was satisfactory enough for me just to receive some kind of answer. It was such a relief. I don’t think it would have become such a big issue for me if there had not been an extremely questionable third party interfering for some unknown personal gain. Now it feels as if the whole matter is resolved and I don’t have to worry about it at all anymore. That’s all that matters.

Anyway, I also have more important matters to tend to, like my actual real life, where I have multiple problems staring me in the face. So I like a good escape. So what? It is what it is.

I like being in Thailand. I just don’t give a fuck. Everything seems so far away. Chill vibes only.

Hong Kong is so much more intense and expensive and competitive. Especially expensive. It’s stupidly expensive. I knew it would be expensive, but damn. Everything is so absurdly expensive all the time. It’s a money pit. I’m not getting much return on that very high-risk investment so far. It’s been a good learning experience, though. I don’t regret it one bit.

As you can see, I have to make a real choice here. I can’t really worry too much about anything else right now. I need to find something. I haven’t gotten any callbacks so far. It’s not ideal. Still, I persist.

Anther choice to be made? Whether or not I will go to this party tomorrow for the Super Bowl. It’s at an absurd and unreasonable hour here (6:30am). I’m clearly only interested in daydrinking with the crazy expats. I don’t care about American football. I also want to see how messy it gets, lol. It’s like a reality TV show in there. What kind of person wakes up at 6:00am on a Monday to go to a bar and watch a sports game in Thailand? We will find out the answer to this question tomorrow!

What am I doing with my life? No one knows… no one knows…

BLOG: Enjoy the Show!

Thursday. Here we are in BKK.

I still have not resolved my housing situation in Hong Kong, though not for lack of trying. It’s very stressful. It’s insanity. I don’t know why I’m determined to make it work. It’s… exhausting.

I guess I have something to prove to everyone, I guess. Maybe prove to myself? I don’t know. I’m pretty relaxed with myself these days. I have forgiven myself for the foolish mistakes of my youth. I am much kinder to myself. I do not hurt myself if I fail.

I think I’m doing pretty well for being out on my own in Southeast Asia for 8 months. I didn’t know it was possible to be happy on a regular basis. It’s like a fog has finally lifted off of me after all these years.

In an effort to forget my housing crisis, I wandered on down to the American Bar to check out the side show. Unfortunately, standing out front was Mr. Antony’s Friend. We exchanged not-so-friendly looks and I walked by him with my head held up high and didn’t speak to him.

He followed me in shortly after and said, “I was going to leave, but now that you’re here, I’m going to stay for another one and watch the show.” He pretended like he was talking to someone else, but he was looking at me right when he said it. I continued ignoring him the entire time I was there. I wasn’t in the mood to deal with him.

Unfortunately, trouble was already brewing elsewhere in the bar. A pair of dirty backpackers came in and started getting rowdy. I realized too late that I was sitting right in the middle of the stand-off between the backpackers and the regulars, all of whom are ex-military in some form or another.

I managed to slip through the crowd and sit by my friend from Oklahoma at the end of the bar. We watched the fight go down as he sat there calmly eating his pancake. The regulars chased the backpackers out and crisis was averted. And so went another exciting adventure down at the American Bar…

After the atmosphere calmed down, they turned their talk to the St. Patrick’s Day Emerald Ball. It drove me, a Bridgerton fan, absolutely crazy to listen to them talk about it. You see, I want to go oh-so-badly, and I could because I can prove my Irish ancestry, but here is the thing: the person who distributes the tickets is my friend Hermes, and he is currently mad at me because I referred to him as a “child soldier.”

Right.

Oops!

It’s kind of funny when you think about it. I think it’s funny. I mean, it’s not funny, but it kind of is pretty funny, actually. I mean, it’s not like it’s his fault. I’m just saying it is what it is. And anyway, why does it matter so much?

His character helpfully pointed out that I also called him “a little messenger boy” and attacked his masculinity and strong sense of Irish national pride.

Right, well I guess there’s that. To which I say, “You were literally stalking me. You are a gangster. What was I supposed to do? Cower in fear? Or tell you to fuck off?”

He would say, “I was just doing my job.”

“Doesn’t matter. You invaded my privacy and stole my data. You compromised my personal space. Everything you did was a total boundary violation.”

“I had to make sure you were who you said you were.”

“I am. Now you know me. Now you can stop.”

“Okay.”

All right, guess we’ll call it even then. Good thing I am oh-so-diplomatic. I’ll take that invitation, please and thank you. Have a nice day!

Gotta love the impromptu daydream fantasies about telling various people to go fuck themselves, lol.

Anyway, back at the bar… the night pretty much died after that. One of the bartender’s friends sat down to chat with me. She shared some of her salty squid snacks with me. I ate them out of politeness, but became violently ill as a result very shortly after and had to leave. I have no tolerance for seafood. It was an extremely unpleasant experience. Never again.

Now I am here, still not feeling too great, but made it out of bed anyway. I am all the way up on the 25th floor and I could still hear the ceremonial drum session outside this morning. It woke me up pretty early, which is unfortunate as I need the sleep.

Worrying about my entire situation right now. Worry, worry, worry. Lots to worry about. No wonder my brain wants to escape into a magical fantasy land with a masquerade ball. Much better than dealing with the pains of reality.

Haha, yeahhhh….

BLOG: Boardwalk-Park Place

Wednesday. Sitting at the coffee stand. Watching the world pass me by. Not feeling quite as lost as I used to feel when I was here before in Thailand. Hong Kong has truly been a stabilizing force in my life. I would like more of that energy, please.

I haven’t been going out very much due to lack of energy, but I finally ventured out last night. The American Bar has become much less exciting than it used to be. All of my favourite characters are gone. I have moved on. It just doesn’t quite hold that spark of interest for me that I had prior. I appreciate the fact that it was there for awhile to help me work through my Bloody Mary’s karma. It definitely achieved that particular end goal.

Instead, I was sitting alone with my Chang, stewing over my Hong Kong real estate situation. As you can see, I am clearly in Bangkok because I have a place to reside here that I like and is quite comfortable for me. However, I do not have the same in Hong Kong (yet). I am quite tired of always feeling so unstable. Real estate is rapidly becoming my latest obsession. Forget all of these stupid men! I need a house!

Nothing very interesting took place there last night at all. I thought back to Friday night when I suddenly had to leave. I am sure that someone dropped kratom in my drink. I’m sure of it. It has a very strong, very specific effect on me that alcohol does not have. Mainly the hallucinogenic effects.

I can only assume whoever did it did it because they thought it would be a funny joke. Maybe they were trying to get me to leave on purpose. Maybe they were trying to teach me a lesson. I don’t know what their end goal was, but for me… I just went back to my apartment and hallucinated that I was trapped inside of a giant vat of honey. It wasn’t the worst night I’ve ever had. It definitely could have much worse.

Kratom isn’t really that hard on me, in spite of the fact that it makes me vomit every single time. Otherwise I imagine stupid bloody English wankers as lost Roman soldiers and see the Loch Ness Monster swimming around in my drink. Generally, pretty harmless. Well, not sure the whole escapade with the British Guy was harmless. He was a pretty big jerk.

With the magic mushrooms, I have to set up the room so it’s a safe space, follow the peer-reviewed experiment directions exactly, and make sure I keep the trauma map of my brain handy to safely guide me through the nightmarish process of confronting the dark parts of my past.

Funny to think that is exactly what I was doing a year ago today. Not I am here, in Asia, which is absolutely fucking wild to me. And I’m just casually getting drugged at a bar and laughing about it like it’s funny. Well, it is Thailand, and I have been hanging around several men of questionable character, so yeah, whatever. It is what it is.

I also have to wonder if my spa treatment that day directly contributed to the honeycomb effect. I did a 2-hour treatment including a steam bath, body scrub, aromatherapy massage, hot stone, and intensive head/shoulder/back massage. So I was already in a semi-sedated state. The alcohol, weed, and kratom together just pushed me into a fully melted state.

Now I know how all of these guys get stuck in Thailand for so long. I’ve figured out the secret. They out here trapping scorpions with honey and frying them on a stick. I totally get it now. I see what they did there.

The good news is that our dear friend “Uncle Carl,” as we will call him, aka Mr. Antony’s Friend, has left me alone since that night. Last week when I came back, he was all up in my grill. This week he has significantly backed the hell off, which is great. Like, yeah, I heard your complaint, responded accordingly, then took your little “joke” with my head held up high and didn’t let you intimidate me with your wanksta shit. Bitch, you can’t fuck with me. I’m an American. I have American friends and allies. You don’t get to mess with me anymore.

Yeah, you can tell yer man (as they say in Ireland, apparently) that he can complain directly to my face if he’s really unhappy. We’ll see if his complaint is valid. I don’t think it is. After all, I was 100% honest with him up-front about who and what I am, and he chose to lie directly to my face. Why would I want to do anything nice for him?

So what if he was a good kisser? So what if he probably looks really good in a cozy sweater on a rainy day? So what if he made me feel the same as eating a bowl of hot beef stew?

In hindsight, his personality was not great! He was definitely a jerk to me all night. He was all up in my beeswax, treating me with so much suspicion and asking me endless questions. He didn’t laugh at any of my jokes. He kept scoffing at me and walking away. I had absolutely no inkling that he was just going to come outside and march around the corner and just take me into his arms like… wow.

Anyway, yeah, he’s a jerk. Anyway, we have a whole island full of hot Irish beefcakes to search for someone more worthy of our poetry. Not some low-down, lying, cheating, dirty dog. He’s a lying liar who tells lies and he deserves whatever karma he gets from acting in such a rakish manner. The end.

Glad we put that story to bed. Here I thought the new season of Bridgerton would be more exciting, but honestly the first episode put me to sleep. I need to just book a one-way ticket to Ireland and live my best Hallmark Channel Original Movie life. Lads for days. Grand. Just grand. I’ll be churning out the endless holiday schmaltz for decades.

Okay, I need to stop thinking about all of this and focus on my quest for actual real things… like a career change and a significantly investment in real estate.

Finding love? Impossible. Landing on Boardwalk-Park Place and building glamorous 5-star Art Deco-style hotels on top? Much more realistic. That’s always been my winning strategy at the game of Monopoly we call life. Now, if only I had a little Scottish terrier to accompany me on my journey…

Off we go. Much to do today…

BLOG: Month Number Nine

Tuesday.

Here we are… Month #9 at SEA. I can’t believe I haven’t given up yet, lol.

Yet here I am, back in Bangkok, after conveniently deciding to miss my flight yesterday. You see, I have an interesting problem. I have an apartment here, but I do not have an apartment in Hong Kong. Thank you, Chinese New Year!

This is some kind of weird rite of passage out here. How do you handle being homeless and forced to constantly move between countries on a moment’s notice? Turns out I’m handling it rather well. Or at least, I’m starting to get the hang of how it all works out here.

My year of learning continues. How do I handle adversity out here in the big, bad world? All I can say is that it takes time and experience. Bad job at sketchy TEFL center, nonstop visa paperwork, riding motorcycles through the street, taking death-defying taxi cab rides, getting robbed multiple times in various ways, casual encounters with gangsters, pimps, and spies, surviving the weirdo hippie cult vibes of Bali, watching bar fights in Bangkok, and trying to make it in Hong Kong despite all of the odds.

Yeah, I think I’m doing all right. Better than anyone expected, I think. Better than I expected. Thank god I spent the entire pandemic reading all of the posts in the digital nomad groups on Facebook and subs on Reddit. I was semi-prepared for this. I was definitely not as prepared as I could have been, but I also didn’t know what to expect when I signed up to travel around the world.

Sure, you can look at pictures on Pinterest and Instagram all day, but the reality on the ground is so much different. I couldn’t even really conceive of a place like Bali until I actually got there. What I had in mind definitely did not match up with reality. And that is only one example…

Plans for Month #9? Be the rich man. We’re going full-on delusional with the Law of Attraction. Vision board made. Resume updated. Mindset clear. I know exactly what I want at this point in time. The universe will provide it to me… somehow.

Still sitting on my new manuscript. I kind of know what I want to do with it, but I also know I need to sit on it a bit longer. Let’s finish out my year abroad before I really commit to anything. I just know I have to crunch what is essentially the first half of the book into the first quarter. So yeah, definitely wait out this year a little bit. Make the vision happen. Make the money. Get the housing situation sorted out. Then return to the book.

Everything is going to be okay. It’s the Year of the Red Fire Horse. This is a lucky year, indeed! I know I can make it work if I hold on a little bit longer.

Off we go now. There is much work to be done today…

BLOG: Wild Farang Night Out

Sunday.

Sitting here at the coffee stand, watching traffic go by. It is true what they say:: the congestion is particularly bad this time of year. I learned last night to always carry a scarf after two motorbike rides through the streets of Bangkok at various times of night. It was almost impossible to breathe.

I am still not 100% about the motorbike, but I’ve learned how to do it. It’s definitely not my preferred method of transportation, but I can manage it now. Three months ago, the thought of it still made me panic. Now, not so much, but still not my favourite method.

I went out with some friends last night for a so-called “Wild Farang Night Out.” It was just the three of us drinking with some old guy who has a big house. Then we went around the corner to get food and more beer at one of the few places that wasn’t closed for Election Day. Not exactly what you would call “legendary,” but fun nonetheless.

I asked them about the bar and they said they don’t go there anymore. They say it’s too much drama. There is also a third party on the line who says they do not go there because of the drama. They are right. There is a lot of drama.

One of my friends had been daydrinking already and was thus very obnoxious. It was almost like he was intentionally playing the worst version of himself for his Google spy camera glasses, which were very strange to hold in my own hands. I had to tell him several times to stop making sexual jokes at me, which he did not do. Zero boundaries. Very draining. It’s like he sucked out all of the good energy I had just spent the week accumulating and left me a hollow shell.

By the end of the night, my other friend was becoming weary of the act as well. I once again had a moment of clarity where I realized it truly doesn’t matter what any of these people think of me. Life goes on. I should surround myself with better people in the future.

Am I ready to go back to Hong Kong tomorrow? No, not really, lol. I like the relaxing lifestyle here in Bangkok. But as I’ve said, it does tend to bring out some of my less desirable qualities. Hong Kong pushes me more to be better and succeed, or else you will end up homeless, kind of like I am right now…

*face palm*

Well, I have to make it work, somehow.

Do I have any idea what I’m doing? No! Not a clue! But somehow I am going to make it work!

Okay, let’s go, Hong Kong. Round 3: Year of the Fire Horse. Third time’s a charm. I’m willing to take a bet on this race today!

Or maybe I will just go back to sleep in the magical cloud bed and continue running around with all the riff raff, collecting stories about my escapades at the Mos Eisley Cantina.

Starting Month 9 at SEA… Can you believe I’ve come this far?

My dad would be so proud. Yoga Teacher Trainings in India and Bali. Luxury hotel stays in the Middle East. Living in Bangkok and Hong Kong. Traveling through 10 different countries. Writing stories about the crazy characters I meet through it all. I know he would be very proud of me indeed.

Now, if only I had some sort of idea of what the hell I’m actually doing…
